Common HVAC installation mistakes to avoid

Your HVAC unit is a complex equipment that has many components. If you’re looking for a new HVAC system to install, you are probably doing a search for the equipment that will suit your needs and the highly rated brand in the industry. Once you get your new HVAC system, you need to get the system installed and it should be done right. When you hire an inexperienced HVAC contractor or install the unit yourself, there are mistakes that may arise. Although some mistakes may not be disastrous, they cause indoor discomfort and increase energy bills which is contrary to what a good HVAC unit should do. Below are common HVAC installation mistakes that you should avoid.

Choosing the wrong size of furnace

When choosing a furnace, the bigger size is not always the solution. An oversized unit can result in more problems you didn’t expect. You should choose the recommended size by your installer only if they do the necessary calculations to determine the suitable size of furnace for your home. Most contractors recommend people to choose a furnace of the same size as the preexisting one. The contractor should be able to do the professional calculations and determine the accurate size of furnace suited for accurate HVAC unit installation.

Faulty duct installation technique

Another costly mistake is failing to seal the ducts correctly. When the ducts are properly sealed, there are minimal chances of air escaping from the duct into the other areas like the attic. Mastic take is the best choice of tape to use in sealing the ducts. Some contractors use cheap materials and poor workmanship in installing the duct, leaving gaps and cracks which make the duct to start leaking after a short while. Air leakage through the duct may not only cause inefficiency but also raise your energy bills.

Installing with improper charge level

If the charge level is not set as required, your system may not only be inefficient but also unreliable. Ensure the charge level is according to the manufacturer’s specification during the installation time.

Poorly designed drain systems

Today’s air conditioners and furnaces can cause the accumulation of much wastewater. The water requires proper drainage for it to be safely moved out of the system. If the drained is not done right, you can experience much damage on your building as a result of water leaks. During the cold season, the water backing up in the pipes may freeze and cause your system to fail. Moreover, the frequent accumulation of water can cause air quality problems and mold in your home.
